This mantra has the name of Gayatri, and this in compliance with the denomination for the unity of versification of three times eight syllables. It is also called Savitri. The goddess Savitri incarnates the Vedic versification and she is the goddess of this sun hymn (Savitri).

The Gayatri mantra derives from Rigveda and is considered as the most sacred mantra of the Vedas. It is Rishi Vishvamitra who had the revelation. We learn also that the Om sound comes from the heart of Brahma and deploys under the Gayatri form. It is for this reason that Gayatri is called the mother of the Vedas.

The levels of signification of the mantra move in function of the time where the mantra is recited. This mantra, the most important of Hinduism, is normally recited three times a day during transition phases of the day, the dawn, midday, and sunset, and this after a particular ritual preparation. Additional, we can associate each of the 24 syllables of the Gayatri mantra to one colour, divinity, and a particular cosmic principle. In this sense, the Gayatri is a door to the Universe.
The Gayatri has been kept a secret for a long time. It was only passed on in initial surroundings, the most often from father to son. Only the male insiders from the three upper classes were authorised to recite this mantra as it also capacitated to proceed ritual acts.
The mantra can awaken the cosmic conscience and it creates a direct link with supreme truth. It is about a word of praise and a question of reaching epiphany.
The repetition (108 times) of this ancient Mantra purifies the heart and calms the central nervous system.

"Om Bhur Bhuva Svaha
Tat Savitur Varenyam
Bhargo Devasya Deemahi
Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat"

Here is the most common translation:

“Oh absolute existence, absolute Conscience and absolute Beatitude. Creator of three worlds, we meditate on the transcendent light. Please, illuminate our intellect and grant us a greater discernment.”
