The result of a close collaboration between Shrî Aurobindo and Jean Herbert, this volume brings together the Ishâ Upanishad and the Kena Upanishad, commented on by the founder of the Pondicherry Ashram, as well as his translation of the Mundaka Upanishad. The Ishâ Upanishad, the essential text of Vedanta, sets out in a few verses the foundations of Supreme Being monism. The Kena Upanishad, one of the oldest, evokes Brahman beyond all perception and conception. Finally, the Mundaka Upanishad, composed of sixty-eight mantras, describes the path that leads to ultimate knowledge.
These three major texts of Hinduism form both the complement and the extension of the studies of the great Indian sage on the Bhagavad Gita, published in this same collection.
