In homage to Shiva, considered one of the three major deities of Hinduism, and also the supreme deity, a symbol of the universe in Hindu mythology.
And in reference to the moon, because Shiva, through his legend, is inseparable from the moon, which is symbolized by the crescent moon adorning his hair.
We chose Shiva and the moon also for their mystical aspect.
The moon is much more present in yoga than you might think. In Hatha Yoga, Ha means sun, while the moon is Tha. It is the union between the moon and the sun, the perfect balance that yogis seek. The moon also represents the feminine principle. The moon is also found in Ashtanga yoga, where it is advised not to practice during the full and new moon.
Like the sun salutation, the moon salutation is a sequence of postures designed to honor the moon at each new phase.
The moon and the sun are models of balance for humankind: finding equilibrium between darkness and light is at the very heart of yoga.
Care instructions: Always roll the mat with the top facing outwards. Rolling it in the opposite direction can damage the mat surface.
Wipe the mat top with a soft cloth after use (do not use a microfiber cloth as it is too abrasive). If using a cleaning solution, apply it to the cloth first; do not apply it directly to the mat.
To protect the mat top, avoid applying lotions, creams, or wearing rings on your hands or feet while exercising.
Avoid cabinets or storage areas with sharp edges that can leave a lasting mark.
To prolong its lifespan, avoid exposing your mat to direct sunlight.
Caution: Do not clean your mat with black soap, as it is made from olive oil and vegetable soda and can irreversibly damage your mat.
Our Shiva Moon yoga mats come without plastic packaging, wrapped in recycled tissue paper and a biodegradable cornstarch envelope.
They are certified compliant with CE, SGS, and REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) standards,
established by the European Union.
