The FSC was created in 1993, in the dynamics of the second Earth Summit in Rio (June 1992) by;
• forest owners,
• companies in the wood industry,
• social groups and associations (NGOs) for the protection of the Environment.
The first goal of the FSC is to constructively encourage socially, ecologically and economically responsible forest management initiatives, by making them visible and credible through a label affixed to products from certified forests. The FSC logo signals to the public a product corresponding to clear, transparent specifications verified by independent certifiers, with the support of one of the largest environmental NGOs (WWF and Greenpeace). It thus allows the consumer or the public to identify wood and its derivative products or products from a forest benefiting from forest management that respects the principles of sustainable development as defined in Rio in June 1992, that is to say:
• ecologically adapted,
• socially beneficial and
• economically viable.
The FSC has endeavored to offer buyers and the public the maximum guarantees of credibility.
FSC Principles and Criteria:
The FSC Principles and Criteria apply to all the forests on the planet: tropical, temperate and boreal, whether ancient, secondary or plantation.
The 10 FSC principles cover the following themes:
1 Respect for FSC laws and principles.
2 Land rights and responsibilities and uses.
3 Rights of indigenous peoples.
4 Rights of workers and relations with communities.
5 Forest resources.
6 Impact on the environment.
7 Management plan.
8 Monitoring and evaluation.
9 Maintenance of forests with high conservation value.
10 Plantations.

Do not contain formaldehyde or whose content is far from the declared legal limit.
