While jnāna-yoga is one of the types of yoga found in Hindu mysticism, it is not a technique like hatha yoga. Jnāna, in Sanskrit, means knowledge. Jnāna-yoga is the process of tearing away the veil of ignorance, and it is one of the paths that lead to God.
For Swāmi Vivekānanda, knowledge is the ultimate goal. But it is not knowledge in its intellectual sense - rather knowledge of the Self, as well as awareness of Oneness. Where the devotee of God follows his heart with unwavering faith, the jnani listens and develops his reason to distinguish between the real and the unreal, the unchanging and the transient, in order to penetrate the Great Mysteries.
